Encouraging Bible Verses for Hard Times (and How I Keep Them Close)

♥

Our year has been a challenge. Not just the normal stuff — rain when we needed sunny days, grandchildren who didn’t understand their parents and parents who didn’t understand their kids, aches where we didn’t used to have them.

We started the year with health issues — some improved, some did not. Our church family was tested when our pastor became ill. Through all of it, the one light at the end of the tunnel was the Word of God.

I have relied on Bible verses to lift my spirits, give me hope, and remind me that there is a guiding hand — a steady source of peace and support. It’s easy to get so caught up in the day-to-day trials and tribulations, in the false notion that I’m the one in charge.

I keep Bible verses tucked in the corner of my mirror, on the mantle under the TV, and on my phone. Here are five that have carried me through this year.

Five Verses That Carried Me This Year

Cast your burden onto Yahweh and He will sustain you ...

Psalm 55:22

“Cast your burden on Yahweh and he will sustain you. He will never allow the righteous to be moved.”

Let 's not be weary in doing good, for we will reap in due season if we don't give up

Galatians 6:9

“Let’s not be weary in doing good, for we will reap in due season if we don’t give up.”

Now faith ias assurance of things hoped for, proof of things not seen.

Hebrews 11:1

“Now faith is assurance of things hoped for, proof of things not seen.”

I sought the LORD,and he answered me, and delivered me from all my fears.

Psalm 34:4

“I sought the LORD, and he answered me, and delivered me from all my fears.”

I waited Patiently for the LORD. He turned to me, and heard my cry. He Brought me up ... set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand.

Psalm 40:1-2

“I waited patiently for the LORD. He turned to me, and heard my cry. He brought me up also out of a horrible pit, out of the miry clay. He set my feet on a rock, and gave me a firm place to stand.”

Keep Them Close

Many of these I’ve printed out or saved as a PDF so they’re with me whenever I need them. All five — and more — are available as printable scripture cards in our Scripture Cards collection — perfect for tucking into a mirror frame, a journal, or your wallet.

I hope these verses lift you up the way they’ve lifted me.
